The Last of Us just had its most historic episode in the series history. After the season premiere, fans of the video game knew what was coming. For people who haven't played the video games, fans were in for a wild surprise. This episode will go down as the best episode in series history. Let's break it all down.
The Fall of Jackson
The community of Jackson was seen as one of the stable parts of the series. But, this episode changed all that and signaled the end of the community. The battle of Jackson was amazing to watch. Seeing the monsters and how they are different from other post apocalyptic shows is very refreshing. These monsters actually have speed and certain traits that make them difficult to contain. The best part of this battle was seeing Tommy with the flamethrower and using it on the super big monster. Overall, the Jackson battle was really well done compared to other famous television battles.
Abby's Story
This episode gives us more insight into the actions of Abby. It tries to make us feel bad for Abby and does a good job of accomplishing that in some moments. It makes you understand the reason she wants to kill Joel. It makes us question our own beliefs and makes us ponder what we would do if we were her. A lot of us I think would try to do the same if we were in the same position as Abby. But fans of the game and television series hate Abby for what she does at the end of this episode. The end of the episode changes the whole series and affects the motivations for characters going forward.
The Death of Joel
If you did not play the video games, the end of the episode can be one of the most shocking moments in television history. Abby fulfills the promise she made to herself and kills Joel. The murder was absolutely brutal too. First, shooting him in the leg and then taking a golf club and hammering it like she's Tiger Woods. What makes it even more shocking is that Joel saved her life in this episode. Joel saved her from the monsters but Abby did not care. She saw an opportunity to do what needed to be done in her opinion. The whole scene was absolutely gut wrenching and shocking. The expressions on Ellie's face as she tries to save Joel tell the whole story. She lost the one person that truly cared for her in this world. Bella Ramsey did a fantastic job portraying Ellie's pain. The empty look she gives as she on the horse dragging Joel's body is an image I will not forget anytime soon. The sudden death of Joel will leave fans of the series only shocked and confused and not knowing what will happen next.
Abby vs Ellie
After Ellie grieves Joel's death, the series tells us what is coming next. The season will eventually end with Abby vs Ellie in their own personal battle. Ellie will try to do to Abby what she did to her. She will kill all of her friends in the Fireflies. Ellie will probably get some help on her journey from Dina. Remember, Dina was like a second daughter to Joel. It only makes sense for Dina to help Ellie and get some revenge for herself.
Overall, this episode of The Last of Us was the best one of the series. The emotions that come from this episode alone are very powerful. The battle of Jackson was awesome to watch and the death of Joel was truly shocking and heartbreaking. This episode will elevate The Last of Us to a whole other level with even higher stakes.
