*SPOILER ALERT
Last week on Severance, we saw Helena get exposed for pretending to be Helly R. Irving made the sacrifice of giving up his position as a result of exposing Helena to his fellow innies. That scene was one of the most emotional scenes in the show. Seeing Irving rage at Helena, trying to drown her and then see when Milchick brings Helly R back, the tenderness and care he shows to Helly R was quite the rollercoaster of emotions. The fallout from last week's episode will be the talking point of this week's episode. What will happen to the office now that Irving is fired? How will Mark's reintegration affect him? How will Helly R effect what is happening at Lumon?
The firing of Irving B.
Irving's time has come and gone at Lumon after his actions at "the tallest waterfall on the planet" according to our favorite character Milkshake. How will his absence affect the office? It's a large question going into this week's episode. Don't be surprised if we see Irving B again. Whether it is his outie or his innie, Irving B will live on. I can see a scenario where Irving B is brought back because of a revolt from the other innies. I can see Mark also finding Irving in the outie world and explaining everything that has happened. This could lead to interactions we have never seen before with our favorite characters' outies.
The Reintegration of Mark S.
Mark's reintegration was surprisingly done early in season 2 but the results haven't shown yet. We had a little tease when Mark and Helena were making love and he imagined his wife Gemma aka Ms. Casey. This tells us that Mark's worlds are colliding once again. How will his innie and outie world collide with each other? Since he will be able to remember everything, how will this affect his relationships with Helly R and Dylan G? I have a feeling Mark will keep his reintegration a secret from his fellow innies. First, he doesn't know if he will have the same result as Petey's reintegration had on him. Mark's reintegration could end the same way so he might want to protect the ones he loves. I also believe he will want it to be a secret because he won't want to feel like he is betraying his fellow innies. Now that he will remember both his work memories and his personal memories at the same time, Mark S. will be a completely different human. It will be interesting to see how it affects his actions both on the severed floor and outside of work.
The Return of Helly R.
This week's episode marks the full return of Helly R. after she almost drowned as Helena by Irving B. We haven't seen Helly R. since her actions at the end of season 1, when she exposed Lumon for their severance program and its effects on its employees. After Helly R's actions, the company had Helena go back to work pretending to be her innie to gather intel about the innies' future plans. Now that Helly R. is back, there will be a different energy in the office. It will be interesting to see how her character navigates the office and what she will reveal to the other innies. It also makes you wonder how long Helly R. will be back in the office. Will she be back permanently or just for a short period of time? Lumon can just pull the switch and have Helena back in the office. I am excited to see the character's first episode and what her direction will be.
