My Most Anticipated Comic Book Movies

After a few rough years of comic book movies being inconsistent, the future of the genre is looking promising again. Both DC and Marvel have upcoming films to look forward to. These are the movies that I’m looking forward to in the next few years.

5. The Fantastic Four: The First Steps (2025)

Ten years after the horrible 2015 movie Fantastic Four, Marvel’s first family is being rebooted into the MCU. It’s long overdue for a good Fantastic Four movie and everyone is hoping The Fantastic Four: The First Steps delivers. The main cast is Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing. Galactus will be the main villain, played by Ralph Ineson, and will hopefully be a more faithful adaptation instead of the dumb cloud from Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. The Fantastic Four: The First Steps is scheduled to come out on July 25, 2025.

4. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse

After two fantastic animated Spider-Verse movies, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is one of my most anticipated movies. Unlike the other movies on this list, the film currently doesn’t have a release date. Due to the Actors’ Strike and other setbacks, the movie got delayed from its original 2024 release date. According to MovieWeb, one of the film’s voice actors, Karan Soni, recently gave an update on the movie and said the movie is deep into production and the actors will begin recording their lines in a few months. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will continue where Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse ended and Miles Morales will continue to try and stop Spot and save his father while being hunted down by Miguel O’Hara and his Spider-Society. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will once again star Shameik Moore and Haile Steinfeld.

3. Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027) (Tied)

After many delays, setbacks, and changes to the main villain, the next two Avengers movies are ready to go with Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. These movies are likely going to connect with the Russo Brothers directing them. Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom is the big talk of the summer, with some fans, including myself, excited to see what he can do. Some fans are skeptical and worried this could backfire. It’s unknown what Marvel characters will appear outside of the new Fantastic Four cast, but the many possibilities of who will appear, and what confrontations Doom will have, as well as how Secret Wars will be adapted to the big screen make these two films two of my most anticipated comic books films. Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to come out on May 1, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars is scheduled to come out on May 7, 2027.

2. Superman (2025)

After many years of uncertainty with Superman, James Gunn is bringing the king of superheroes back, launching his new DCU with Superman. The film will touch upon Clark Kent balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his upbringing on Earth. The film stars David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicolas Hoult as Lex Luthor. The film will also have the first live-action appearances of Mr. Terrific, Hawkgirl, Metamorpho, and Guy Gardner. Being a fan of Superman since I was a little kid watching Superman: The Animated Series, as well as Gunn’s take on comic book movies and shows from both DC and Marvel, this is one of my most anticipated movies overall in the next few years. Superman is scheduled to come out on July 11, 2025.

1. The Batman Part II

The Batman was one of the best comic book movies to come out post-covid and one of the best Batman movies ever made. Matt Reeves explored a younger, more angry Batman with a great detective story that reminded viewers Batman is also a detective and a great villain in Riddler which had audiences on the edge of their seats. Due to the strikes, The Batman Part II got delayed to October 2, 2026, but remains my most anticipated comic book movie. Robert Pattinson was great as Batman and I hope they explore his version of Bruce Wayne more. Matt Reeves is an excellent director and delivers great action, great characters, and a great story. The possibilities of what villains could appear are endless, with rumored unique takes on them, from Mr. Freeze to Clayface. The upcoming show on Max, The Penguin, could also give audiences a better understanding of the direction the film will go.
