Warner Bros Pictures and Legendary Pictures have announced a sequel to the critically acclaimed and box-office hit Dune. The movie is set to be released on October 20, 2023. Denis Villeneuve will return to direct the sequel. Hans Zimmer will return as the composer.
It shouldn't come as a surprise to fans that there will be a sequel to Dune. The film was met with critical acclaim by critics and produced $40 million on its first weekend at the box office. Legendary Pictures added a statement in the following tweet below:
The Dune sequel will focus on part two of the classic novel written by Frank Herbert. Denis Villeneuve said when he heard the news of a sequel “I just received news from Legendary that we are officially moving forward with Dune: Part Two. It was a dream of mine to adapt Frank Herbert’s Dune, and I have the fans, the cast, and crew, Legendary and Warner Bros. to thank for supporting this dream. This is only the beginning.”
News of the sequel will excite fans because they wanted to see more of the Dune universe. All of the main cast that was in the first film and who's character is still alive is expected to return for the sequel. The sequel will be released in theaters exclusively on October 20, 2023.
